Computer History Museum to celebrate Apple’s 50th anniversary with special programming

With Apple’s 50th anniversary fast approaching, the Computer History Museum is planning a series of programs and a temporary exhibit to celebrate the company’s history. Here are the details.

CHM to celebrate Apple’s golden jubilee with special programming

The Computer History Museum (CHM) announced today Apple@50, a special celebration of Apple’s 50th anniversary, marking the company’s founding on April 1, 1976.

Here’s the CHM:

On April 1, 1976, Apple Computer was founded with a radical idea: that powerful computing should be personal. Fifty years later, Apple stands as one of the most influential technology companies in history—shaping not only products, but culture, design, and how billions of people interact with technology every day.

We’re celebrating Apple’s first 50 years with special programs, an exhibit of rare prototypes, digital stories from the collection, and more. Join us!

While light on specifics about the actual programs and exhibitions, the CHM does offer a way to sign up to “receive email notifications about special activities” about what’s in store for its Apple@50 celebration.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of Tim Cook confirming that Apple will do… something to observe the half-century milestone, though details on that remain even lighter.

These are just two of what will inevitably be a multitude of announcements and initiatives focusing on Apple’s anniversary, one of which is David Pogue’s upcoming book Apple: The First 50 Years, which is currently available for pre-order and will be launched next month.

We’ll keep an eye out for further details on CHM’s Apple@50 programming and opening date, but if you find yourself in the Bay Area over the next few months, it might be worth planning some time to make a visit.
